Scope and ContentsBackground: born Montreal 1932, happy childhood, early illnesses, art lessons at Ecole des Beaux-Art and Montreal Museum School; education: Black Mountain college, exposure to American culture, introduction to mathematics and topology with Max Dehn, artistic culture of Asheville and Black Mountain, friendship with Cy Twombly, Robert Rauschenberg, Basil King, also studied art, music, and dance, daughter Christine born 1952, move to New York City 1955; career: early work in New York studios, single mother, difficulties of being a woman artist, first show at Bykert Gallery and influence of gallery director Klaus Kertess, early shows at Paula Cooper Gallery, mathematical style of work, including layering, space, and shapes; discussions: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Renaissance, astronomy, artistic influences, non-aesthetic nature of work.
